23rd Annual AstraZeneca Excellence in Chemistry Award

The AstraZeneca Excellence in Chemistry Award

At AstraZeneca, we recognize that advances in medicine rely on continuous innovations in chemistry. To reward outstanding contributions to the art of chemistry, the Excellence in Chemistry Award has been presented annually to:

  • Two talented academic researchers who have demonstrated distinct potential in synthetic, mechanistic, or bioorganic chemistry
  • One distinguished lecturer

Awardees are selected by a team of AstraZeneca senior scientists, in consultation with world-leading academic scientists. Recipients are presented with a $50,000 unrestricted research grant intended to help foster continued growth and development of their research programs.

Past awardees include many researchers who have gone on to become leaders in the scientific community.

In 2007, awardees included:

  • Professor Karl Scheidt, Northwestern University
  • Professor Mo Movassaghi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Professor Andrew Myers, Harvard University as Distinguished Lecturer
