Responsibilities David Elkins is a member of AstraZeneca’s U.S. Leadership Team and has responsibility for all finance, information technology and Investor Relations matters in North America. David is also a member of the board of directors for MedImmune Inc., a subsidiary of AstraZeneca. Prior experience Since joining the company in 1995, David has held a variety of senior finance roles, both in the United States and internationally. Prior to his current role, David served as Chief Financial Officer for AstraZeneca’s U.K. business, where his responsibilities included oversight of finance, purchasing, information technology and AstraZeneca’s commercial portfolio in the U.K. He was a member of the U.K. Leadership Team and represented AstraZeneca in negotiations with the government’s regulatory pricing bodies, Office of Fair Trade and various industry forums. Prior to that, he served as the Finance Director of a $5 billion division and supported the launch of top-selling drug NEXIUM®. David has broad international finance experience having led finance teams in Europe and Asia. While working in Europe David held various finance management roles with responsibilities in R&D, Global Marketing and Business Development & Licensing. In Asia, David had financial management responsibility for the region and helped re-shape the business there during the Asia financial crisis in 1997. In addition to David’s membership on the MedImmune Board he also serves on management committees for our partnerships with Merck and Bristol-Myers Squibb. David’s experience outside of AstraZeneca includes Sr. Director of Corporate Strategy and Development at Unisys where he led the business development function. In this role David was responsible for the execution of acquisitions and technology-partnering initiatives. David started his career at The Boeing Company, where he held various finance positions. Education David holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Delaware’s Lerner Business School, a master of business administration degree from Drexel University’s LeBow Business School, as well as a master’s degree in organizational dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he earned a certificate of professional development from the Wharton Executive Development program, as well as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified in Financial Management (CFM) designations. Affiliations David is a board member of the United Way of Delaware and a member of the Audit Committee of the University of Delaware. His professional affiliations include the Financial Executive Institute, Institute of Management Accountants and the National Association of Corporate Directors. David is the co-founder of the Walter Stark Scholarship at the University of Delaware, which provides financial assistance to Delaware residents in need. |
