16% of the US population is uninsured

In 2003, the Census Bureau reported that 45 million people in the United States were without health insurance (an increase of 1.4 million uninsured since 2002). It’s hard to believe, but 45 million represents almost 16% of our population. To say that the issue of America’s uninsured and underinsured is “significant” would be an understatement, which is why we have an ongoing commitment to helping patients get the medicines they need.

Unfortunately, AstraZeneca (and corporations like us) cannot solve this problem on our own. The problem of access to medicines is not just confined to the cost of a drug. It goes much deeper than that, which is why we continually look for opportunities to take an active role in shaping the future of our health care delivery system.
